What's your Underrated Horror Movie List? Here's ours (Part 1).

There's a wide selection of horror movies out there in the market, from big screen flicks backed by big studios, to final year film projects shot by college students that were uploaded to Youtube and lost under a sea of videos.

In this list, we feature the most underrated horror and thrillers that were lost to time or just weren't given the amount of love that they deserve.

We here at Asian Does Horror never knock a movie till we've tried it, and the list below includes some gems that have flown completely under our radar, but once we sat down and gave them a watch, we fell in love with them immediately.

Also, a huge thanks to /u/SkepticalAqcuiesce and the contributors on /r/Horror over at Reddit for providing us the inspiration and the suggestions for us to come up with this list.

Below is the compiled list of underrated horror movies that you should definitely check out if you're a horror movie buff.

Spring (2014)

Spring (2014), directed by Justin Benson (Resoultion, The Endless) and Aaron Moorhead (Resolution, The Endless), is an American horror romance focusing on Evan who travels to Italy to elope with a woman called Louise, who harbors a terrifying secret.

Resolution (2013)

Brought to you by the same duo that directed, wrote and produced Spring (2014), Resolution tells the story of Michael that travels to a remote cabin in the woods in search of his drug-addicted friend, after receiving a troubling video from him.

The Endless (2017)

We have so much love for Benson and Moorhead, so for our next pick we chose another project of theirs called The Endless. Something like a sequel to Resolution, The Endless shares the same universe as Resolution is a science fiction horror movie that tells the story of two brothers played by Benson and Moorhead, who return to an alleged cult that they previously belonged to.

As the Gods will (2014)

As the Gods Will is such a campy, ridiculous movie that will leave you staring at the screen asking, "how did we get to this scene?". It's such an enjoyable ride full of quirkiness and great cinematography as well as pretty good animation. As the Gods Will is directed by Takashi Miike, the same genius behind Ichi the Killer, Crows: Zero and many other great Japanese movies and TV shows. The movie revolves around Shun Takahata, a Japanese high school student obsessed with violent video games. Soon, he's thrown into real life violent games orchestrated by God. As the Gods Will is based off the manga of the same name.

It Stains the Sands Red (2017)

This movie is the epitome of an idea that was birthed from a bunch of friends sitting around a table and discussing ridiculous horror movie plots. It Stains the Sands Red is directed by Colin Minihan and stars Brittany Allen. The movie plot is so simple but original and refreshing that you have to watch it to believe it. It Stains the Sands Red follows Allen's character as she's pursued across the Las Vegas desert by a single, slow walking, but persistent zombie.

The Canal

The Canal is written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh and stars Rupert Evans (Hellboy). It tells the story of Evans, a father, investigating a gruesome murder that occurred in his home in the early 1900s.

Ladronas de Almas (2015)

Ladronas de Almas or Soul Robbers tells the story of outlaws that raid a family's compound during the Mexican civil war. Instead of treasure, the outlaws find horrors they could never have imagined.

As Above, So Below (2014)

As Above, So Below is an American found footage horror movie that follows a documentary crew as they explore the catacombs beneath the city of Paris. As the crew travels further and further into the catacombs, they realize that there is more to the labyrinth than they've been told and they might have entered hell itself.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)

This movie is a mockumentary, black comedy, slasher movie directed by Scott Glosserman and is a homage to classic slasher films. It stars Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals (Home Alone, Spanglish), Scott Wilson (The Last Samurai, Monster, Pearl Harbor), Zelda Rubenstein (Poltergeist, Wishmaster) and Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street). Its basically tells the story of a journalist and her crew that are documenting Leslie Vernon, an aspiring serial killer that hopes to make a name for himself based on typical slasher film tropes.

Feast (2005)

If you need an introduction to B-movie horror, this is it. Feast is basically a horror comedy with a lot of big names behind it. Feast is directed by John Gulager (Piranha: 3DD, Children of the Corn: Runaway) and is produced by Joel Soisson (American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile) and others and was written by Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV, V & VI) and Patrick Melton (The Collector, The Occult). It also features executive producers Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Chris Moore and Wes Craven.

Feast tells the story of a group of people gathered in a bar somewhere in Nevada when they're suddenly attacked by a bunch of grotesque monsters. The movie is a splatter fest and features some pretty decent monster design with some satisfying and creative kills.

So this is just part one of the underrated horror movies that we would like to feature. Stay tuned for part two and part three and maybe even a part four. Honestly, there are some really great unknown horror movies out there and we'd like to highlight them to all of you.
