Death of Me couldn't even be saved by a discount Hemsworth brother

Maggie Q is slowly becoming the poster Asian girl for B-grade horror. (Image courtesy of imdb.com) It's always interesting to see Western horror movies that focus on South East Asian myths and traditions. However, we weren't too excited for Death of Me. Even the trailer was a little lackluster. But as connoisseurs of horror, we willed ourselves to sit down and watch. Death of Me is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2, Saw 3, Saw 4) and stars Maggie Q (Divergent, Mission Impossible 3, Fantasy Island) and a discount Hemsworth brother, Luke Hemsworth (Neighbours, Westworld).  It follows the story of a married couple, Christine and Neil played by Q and Hemsworth respectively as they holiday in a small village somewhere in Thailand. Neil's a travel journalist documenting his trip in Thailand and they awake one morning covered in dirt with no recollection of the night before. With only a video recording of him murdering his wife and burying her (despite Christine being alive

Freaky is an awkward love child between Freaky Friday and Friday the 13th

(Image courtesy of rogerebert.com) The 2020 slasher/comedy Freaky had generated a lot of hype since the release of its trailer sometime last year in the midst of the pandemic. The hype was perpetuated further by the casting of Vince Vaughn as a serial killer that swaps bodies with a high school teen in a Freaky Friday-esque movie with a PG-13 twist.  When Asian Does Horror sat down to watch this, we had zero expectations because we truly wanted it to be an enjoyable experience. Not since Brawl in Cell Block 99 has Vince Vaughn wowed us with his  on-screen  performance and we were hoping that Freaky would replicate that.  Sadly, no. It was a mediocre presentation by the 1.96 meter tall actor acting feminine that anyone could have pulled off. We're not blaming his acting entirely on him though . The casting for the lead female role could have been better as well. Kathryn Newton as Millie was just your A-typical actress without any quirks and it left Vaughn very little to work with

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 4 ends as it started; mundanely

(Image courtesy of blogtobollywood.com) After watching all four seasons of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (patiently waiting for following seasons, mind you), we at Asian Does Horror, are convinced that apart from season one, the rest of the series was overall... ordinary. Season four starts right after the end of season three with an episode-by-episode introduction of the Eldritch Terrors. Pretty much everyone returns to season four including our title actress, Kiernan Shipka, along with her notable co-stars Chance Perdomo, Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Gavin Leatherwood, Ross Lynch, Jaz Sinclair, Lachlan Watson, Michelle Gomez, Alessandro Giuliani, Luke Cook, Sam Corlett, Jonathan Whitesell, Adeline Rudolph and a cameo from Abigail Cowen. After the confusing, time traveling, two Sabrinas debacle of season three, this season explores Father Blackwood's birth of the Eldritch Terrors.  In this season, Father Blackwood takes on a Saturday morning cart
